3 Gower and Swansea restaurants make 2024 Michelin Guide

If you haven’t heard already, Bayview Oxwich is delighted to share the news that three Gower and Swansea restaurants have made it into the prestigious 2024 Michelin Guide. You might know that we continue to heap praise on and recommend our guests to our local Michelin Star restaurant, Beach House, here in Oxwich Bay, but we can now steer guests to The Shed at SA1 and Slice, two other wonderful favourite restaurants of ours, in Swansea, our city by the sea, which are included in the guide.

While a Michelin star restaurant rates the quality of a restaurant’s food and highlights them as the pinnacle of fine dining, the restaurants recommended in Michelin Guide aim to flag up high quality dining experiences accessible to more diners on various budgets and well as highlighting the quality of dining establishments in a particular area.

So, to give you a flavour of what Gower and Swansea can offer foodies, this is what the Michelin Guide had to say about the three restaurants which were visited by anonymous inspectors who gave their points of view on each:

One Star: High quality cooking

A former coal store is the setting for this beachside restaurant on the beautiful Gower Peninsula. Head Chef Hywel Griffith was born in north Wales and his passion for the country is palpable; he writes his menus in both English and Welsh, and shows admirable support for the country’s producers. Sophisticated, classical cooking is the focus and dishes are reassuringly recognisable. Contrasts in flavour are well-judged and the various components work together to put the spotlight on the main ingredient. The bara brith soufflé is a must!

A personal welcome from chef-owners Chris and Adam is just one of the charms of this sweet little restaurant hidden away in the Swansea suburbs. The passion and pride of the team comes across not just in the friendly service, but in the carefully prepared dishes centred around seasonally changing ingredients – whether that be fresh crab with watermelon or pan-fried sea bass with butter-poached lobster. Choose from the concise à la carte or opt for the tasting menu for the full experience, accompanied by a well-priced wine pairing

The Shed Restaurant
MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Experienced Chef-Owner Jonathan Woolway worked in London for many years before returning home to his beloved Wales to open this industrial-style restaurant by the former docks. His patriotic side comes out in the use of terrific local produce, along with a none-more-Welsh lamb, leek and laverbread pie to share. The other dishes too, from Mangatlisa brawn to a Welsh rarebit on the side, are hearty, traditional and decidedly unfussy.
