Gower makes the UK Top 10 – again!
Gower is no stranger to Top 10 Lists. Whether it’s for best beaches, poshest villages, or award-winning food and restaurants with sea views, it is always up there with the best. And hot off the press, Gower has found its justified place among the Top 10 places in the UK for spectacular sunsets.
The list compiled by journalist, Annabelle Thorpe, in The Observer (30 01 2022) flags up 10 UK destinations to see the “most mesmerising evening skies”. Two of the ten places are in Wales: The Brecon Beacons being one, and our very own Rhossili Bay in Gower being the other.
This is what she says:
The three-mile stretch of sand at Rhossili Bay is pretty spectacular at any time, but sunset ups the ante several notches. The beach faces dues west, which means front seats for a flaming winter sky that turns the sea a deep, metallic teal.
What she doesn’t say is that this is just one of many west and north-west locations that give a ringside view of the sun going down on the ocean.
At Bayview we recommend that as well as the Worm’s Head side of Rhossili Bay mentioned in the article, you venture to the other side of the Bay and see the sun descend from the mystical tidal island of Burry Holms. Or, drive to the famous cockling village of Penclawdd and pull up in the car park and see the sun disappear over the Burry Estuary.
Not only is the Gower peninsula a fantastic location to see fabulous sunsets, but due to its compact nature, you can see the sun rise on the south and south-eastern shores and later hop in the car for ten minutes and see the sun sink over its western edges. All this in one day!
At Bayview, Oxwich you can feast on wonderful sun rises from our luxury contemporary cottages which offer expansive views out over Oxwich Bay to Tor Bay beyond, from the upstairs living-space and covered balconies, and from each of our two stylish apartments.
