The 50 Most Beautiful Places in the UK
The well respected travel brand, Big 7 Travel, has recently published a list of the top 50 most beautiful places in the UK. At Bayview Oxwich we’re pleased, but not surprised, that Wales figures highly yet again. For such a small country (the size of Wales!) it certainly packs a punch in the beauty department, appearing time and time again on these ‘best of’ or ‘most beautiful’ lists.
Our very own Gower peninsula (the UK’s first designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB 1956) came in the Top Twenty, and 3 places in Wales, made it to the TopTen: Snowdonia (Eryri); the Pembrokeshire National Part; and, our very own Three Cliffs Bay, within walking distance of Bayview Oxwich here on the south coast of the peninsula. Importanly, it’s within seeing distance too, its iconic limestones headlands visible from each of our two luxury flats and three contemporary cottages.
Here’s what Big 7 Travel had to say about Three Cliffs Bay:
“Swansea Bay is home to a spectacular mashup of misty dunes, endless salt marshes and giant limestone cliff, including Three Cliffs Bay. From the epic sunrsises and sunsets, to the expanse of sea and traquil marshes that surround it, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most photographed areas in Wales and one of the most beautiful spots in the UK.”
You can walk to Three Cliffs Bay along the sandy bay at Oxwich via Tor Point (depending on the tides) or you can drive and park up at the villages of Southgate, Parkmill or Penmaen and access the bay on foot (1-2kms). You’ll find golden sands, a winding river, a green valley all overlooked by an ancient castle.
It’s a great location: perfect for walkers and families, and dog-friendly all year long. Between 03 07 and 05 09 the bay has lifeguards from 10.00-18.00 every day. Its remoteness and lack of facilities make for its beauty: so no toilets, and pack a picnic, or get a bite to eat in the cafes at Southgate or Parkmill.
