Tŷ Sawna – Oxwich’s new Sauna by the Sea

Reading this feature, you might at first assume that the name, Tŷ Sawna, is a new addition to our luxury holiday rental accommodation Tŷ portfolio here at Bayview, Oxwich. All our current luxury flats and contemporary cottages use Ty (the Welsh for house) to identify them: Tŷ Megan, Tŷ Flo, Tŷ Alice, Tŷ Gwawr and Tŷ Seren.

However, TŷSawna, is the beautiful brainchild of Cardiff-based, Harri Baker, who launched this rejuvenating wood-fired sauna right at the side of the sea at our lovely beach at Oxwich, just a short walk away from us at Bayview. It’s not surprising that when it opened at the end of 2022, Wales Online described its location as “pretty mesmerising.”

As well as breath-taking views of the waves lapping the shoreline, the barrel sauna with its half-moon windows, allows for a meditative space to relax and connect with nature. Harri, a long-time practitioner of hot to cold therapy, well knows the benefits, and seeing a similar venture in Cork, she wanted to bring the experience to Gower.

The wood-fired barrel sauna, with its integrated wood-burning stove seats up to eight people, and blends in with the beachscape, snuggled between the dunes and the sea. It’s a spectacular space to enjoy Gower’s coastline all year round, whatever the weather.

With its idyllic position, it’s a great addition to Oxwich and will no doubt be a magnet for surfers, water-sports’ enthusiasts, wild swimmers, well-being enthusiasts. It’s a big plus for us local residents too, and yet another wonderful facility we can flag up to our visitors at Bayview.

Harri sums it up like this: “Picture sitting in a warm, steamy sauna barrel, looking out of the glass window at the grey, stormy skies and the wild, ocean waves.”

Tŷ Sawna can be booked in 55-minute slots. To book and to find out more about Harri’s venture and the wide range of benefits gained from hot to cold therapy, please visit www.tysawna.co.uk
