The best beaches in the UK – Gower stars again!

2021 has seen Gower figure in so many ‘best of’ features and recently it starred yet again in Conde Nast Traveller. The article published on 20 09 2021 stated that they’d been ‘searching high and low to bring readers the pick of the best beaches in the UK.’

In the list of 49 selected from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, two are just on Bayview’s doorstep here in Gower, which it stated had one of the most picturesque coastlines in the UK.

The first beach they selected was Three Cliffs Bay which they said was one of ‘Britain’s most beautiful shorelines and relatively quiet all year round’. At Bayview, we’ll vouch for that. If you stay with us in one of our luxury holiday rental cottages and flats you’ll be able to look out across Oxwich Bay to the iconic vista of Three Cliffs Bay, with the three distinctive peaks its famed for. Or step out and walk to it via an accessible the flat stretch of sandy coastline, favoured by horse-riders, naturalists and walkers. You might even see an elusive peregrine falcon along the way. At journey’s end, you’ll find a secluded bay overlooked by the crumbling atmospheric castle of Pennard, which the Conde Nast Traveller feature described as having a ‘forgotten feel with a touch of the fantastical and steeped in local folklore.’

The second beach they selected was Rhossili Bay, a wild and almost untouched 3-mile stretch of coastline at Gower’s most western tip. Again, you can walk the famed Gower Coast Path to get there on foot, or take the car for a ten-minute drive and park-up in a large car park owned and managed by the National Trust. Either way, you’re in for a treat as you immerse yourself in the magical feel of this immense Atlantic-facing beach with the tidal islands of Worm’s Head and Burry Holms at either end, and in between the countless wrecks of ships exposed at low tide. If you’re a fan of water sports, here you can surf, windsurf, kite or paddle board without ever feeling crowded out and look back on the steep limestone backdrop.

So in these times of uncertainty with all the hassle of COVID-19 restrictions on international travel, it might be time to discover, or rediscover, what we’ve got here at home and take a holiday with us at Bayview, Oxwich. Please contact Wanda and the Team here who’ll be happy to talk through options and availability with you and direct you to even more secret coves and sensational sandy spots.
