Ironman 70.3 Swansea and Gower and the global running calendar
At Bayview Oxwich we’re delighted to share the news that this year’s Swansea and Gower’s Ironman 70.3 will take place on Sunday, 13th July 2025. Although it might seem like a fair way off, athletes are already registering and training hard for the swim, bike, run event that has become the highlight of the running calendar here in Swansea and Gower for competitors and spectators alike.
The iconic Ironman series of events is the largest participation sports platform in the world, growing from its inception in 1978 from a single race to a global sensation in 2025. The Ironman 70.3 is half the full Ironman event, but according to accolades over recent years, twice the experience in Swansea and Gower! This is no doubt down to the area’s outstanding natural beauty and rich cultural history.
So think spectacular coastline, countryside and a city by the sea, add countless ancient castles and churches and the special south-west Wales welcome/croeso and no wonder it’s so popular. The course for the swim, bike and run is simply incomparable:
The one-loop 1.2 miles swim begins at the Prince of Wales Dock at Swansea’s stunning Marina and foreshore
The one-loop 56-mile bike course starts in the gorgeous Victorian village of Mumbles and continues along roads that hug Gower’s magnificent coastal clifftops and then to rural Swansea and back along Swansea’s sweeping bay to the city centre
The two-loop 13.1 mile run begins in Swansea’s city centre passing the iconic brand new golden Arena towards Mumbles and then loops back to the Marina
