Supporting local Gower and Mumbles’ businesses at Christmas
At Bayview, Oxwich, we’re delighted to be open again after the Welsh firebreak, and now welcoming guests back to our luxury holiday rentals.
2020 is a year none of us will ever forget but it has also been a year when we’ve discovered the variety of quality businesses here on our doorstep in Mumbles and Gower. They’ve certainly helped us through tough times, and having found them, we’re going to keep on supporting them.
None more so than award-winning, independent bookshop, Cover to Cover, www.cover-to-cover.co.uk in Mumbles run by the ever-enthusiastic Tim Batcup and his team who have gone all out to keep customers supplied with an array of all things wonderful during these tough times. When permitted, the shop in Newton Road has remained safely open with socially-distanced protocols in place. At other times, Tim has taken orders by phone and email and hand-delivered orders to customers in the Swansea area and posted out to others.
We would thoroughly recommend our guests take a trip to the treasure trove of a shop in Mumbles. At the moment, as well as being bursting with titles for adults and children, it has a huge selection of Christmas cards, Advent calendars, decorations and gifts to please the whole family. It also has signed copies of David Attenborough, James Hook, Geraint Thomas, Ruth Jones, John Cooper Clarke, Kate Probert and more.
We’d also like to flag up the fact that Cover to Cover (like many indie bookshops across the UK) has recently joined up to a brand new online platform www.ukbookshop.org/shop/cover-to-cover which offers an ethical alternative to Amazon. Of course, Tim and the Team would love to see you personally in the shop, or for you to place your order directly with them, but if you are shielding or you just prefer to shop online, or perhaps you or your friends and family are not lucky enough to have a local independent bookshop, then this virtual shop window enables you to browse and buy and enables independent bookshops to receive a healthy percentage of sales.
Cover to Cover, has selected around 200 fabulous titles to display on this platform under the interesting headings:
Incoming
Movers and Shakers
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Book Club Favourites
We Know it’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll
Welsh, is it (and not that we’re biased but this section has my mother’s book on it – The South Westerlies by Jane Fraser!)
Oh, as I was Young and Easy
Current Reading
It Starts with a Book
Also, until 21st Dec, for any book you purchase from this list – https://bit.ly/2Ixd5Rm
Penguin Random House will donate another copy to Neighbourly – a community business initiative which allows readers to donate books to grassroots organisations including local foodbanks.
We’re proud to support this Cover to Cover initiative at Bayview so thanks Tim for all you offer and for making our Christmas present decisions a lot easier this year.
