The Best Places to eat by the Sea in the UK
It’s becoming a regular occurrence these days to see our very local and very wonderful Michelin starred Beach House Restaurant Oxwich, rightly applauded in so many awards and reviews across the UK.
The most recent was to see it star in Daily Mail’s Mail Online’s feature on ‘The Best Places to Eat by the Sea in the UK’ (12 08 2023) a small and select list picked by acclaimed British Food Writer & Critic, Tom Parker Bowles. Tom is the author of seven cookbooks and in 2010 won the Guild of Food Writers Awards for his writing on British Food. He is known for his appearances as a judge in numerous television food series and for his reviews of restaurants meals around the UK and overseas for GQ, Esquire and The Mail on Sunday. Oh, and he’s also the son of Queen Camilla and the step son of King Charles 3.
Tom maintains that, “everything seems to taste so much better with a sea view” and you can’t get much better than the views offered by Beach House Restaurant, sitting as it does right on the beach at Oxwich, looking out across the ocean, a sweep of pristine sandy shore, and the iconic limestone cliffs of Three Cliffs in the distance.
And it seems Tom was smitten with not only the view. As he says: “Head Chef, Hywel Griffith, cooks up the likes of local lobster with tomatoes, elderflower and peas, and Jon Dory with ricotta and anchovies, the quality of the produce matched only by the skill of Hywel.”
The Beach House Restaurant is the only restaurant in Wales that appears on this UK list including others from Devon, Cornwall and Tyne and Wear. That’s why it’s a favourite of ours at Bayview Oxwich and with our guests who are drawn all year long to the winning combination of the excellence of Beach House Restaurant and the excellence of our luxury holiday rental accommodation.
Hywel’s innovative menus showcase the full flavour of produce from the Gower peninsula: from the sea and from the land. Ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal so the menus changes along with the seasons as do the views from the fabulous restaurant. What doesn’t change is the quality of the dining experience and the welcome from the highly professional yet friendly staff.
