On Location in Gower

Save the date! Settle down and turn on to BritBox on 14th April and see the beautiful Gower peninsula take a starring role in a brand new mini-series, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?

The series, written, starring, and directed by the wonderful Hugh Laurie, is based on Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name and has a stellar cast. As well as Laurie, it features Will Poulter, Jim Broadbent, Nia Trussler-Jones, Richard Dixon and Lucy Boynton.

Gower locals were wondering what was going on last summer when they spotted film crews at Three Cliffs Bay and saw Laurie dining out at a Spanish restaurant in Swansea’s Marina. Now the mystery, as mysterious as anything by Agatha Christie, is solved!

It’s not the first time Gower has been used as a location for film and TV series. Dr Who, Torchwood, Holby City, Keeping Faith and many more have seen the potential Gower offers. With its crashing waves, beautiful beaches, limestone cliffs and precarious cliff-hugging footpaths, it’s not surprising that Laurie chose this location for this series.

IMDB gives the plot of Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? as follows: A dying man’s enigmatic last words send vicar’s son, Bobby Jones, and his socialite friend, Lady Frankie Derwent, on a crime-solving adventure. You can see a trailer here.

If you’d like to experience in real life where the action in the series takes place, we invite you to come and stay in one of our holiday rental properties at Bayview, Oxwich. Our three contemporary cottages and two luxury apartments have views across Oxwich Bay to iconic Three Cliffs Bay and out to Oxwich Point which feature in the series. Both locations are within easy walking distance from Bayview.

For more details, please contact Wanda and the Team at Bayview who’ll be happy to give advice on all our properties and provide you with a list of more film locations in Gower that you can discover while you’re here.
