It’s that time of year where everywhere you look, you read ‘best of lists’ so at Bayview, Oxwich, we thought we’d look back over 2022 and pick out our top 5 highlights of the year

The following 5 – chosen from so many more – show what’s on offer here across a wide range of interests. So if you’re looking for an agricultural show with a difference, 9 days jam-packed with guided walking that cater for all ability levels, music to satisfy lovers of classics, folk and much more, and a triathlon to challenge the fittest, they are all here.

Gower Show

The Gower Show has been a key summer event in the Gower Calendar since 1906. After its absence during the Pandemic it was great to see it return in 2022. This traditional agricultural show is a great day out for all the family. Held in the beautiful grounds of the Penrice Estate just a stone’s throw from Bayview the show is a great celebration of Gower farming. Horses, cattle, sheep, dogs, you name it, you’ll find it here. Next year it’s back on its usual date of the first Sunday in August (6th). See www.gowershow.co.uk for more information and tickets.

Gower Walking Festival

Another welcome return in 2022 was the Gower walking Festival which ran from 3rd-11th September. The festival lasted for nine days and offered thirty-three glorious walks. This year it celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Wales Coast Path, by offering participants the chance to walk the entire Gower section of the path over 2 days, from Penclawdd in the north of the peninsula, to Mumbles in the south. If you’re interested in walking as a way into health and wellbeing, as well as taking in the glorious coastal scenery of our AONB, then look out for next year’s programme at www.gowerwalkingfestival.uk

Gower Festival

For more than forty years the Gower Festival has been bringing music of the highest quality to Gower during the first two weeks of July. Not only does an audience get to hear the finest internationally acclaimed musicians but they do so in the superb acoustic and atmosphere of Gower’s ancient churches. 2022 was a fantastic year to hear live music after the Pandemic. There were 12 outstanding concerts, including guitar and accordion which was particularly poignant as it included Ukrainian music, as well as fabulous piano concerts, and jazz and poetry including 10 Gower poets as part of the interwoven programme. Programme for next year has been decided so please visit www.gowerfestival.org. to see what’s on and book your tickets

Gower Cider and Music Festival

For three days over the weekend of 14th, 15th, 16th October, 2022, Gower Heritage Centre, Parkmill (just 5-mins from Bayview) offered visitors a wide selection of locally produced award-winning cheese, cider and perry from Wales. Along with this, there was a wonderful line-up of music including Blue Grass. Look out for 2023 information and ticketing at www.gowerheritagecentre.co.uk

Ironman 70.3 Swansea and Gower

This was a particular highlight for us, seeing athletes, swim, cycle and run in Gower’s wonderful scenery. Participate or spectate, take note of the date which has been set for 16th July 2023.  So if you want to breathe in sweeping waterfronts, seaside villages, and dramatic coastal landscape, check out www.ironman.com
