Oxwich, Gower – one of the UK’s ‘poshest’ villages

According to The Telegraph, our lovely village of Oxwich is among the 54 poshest villages in the UK. This prestigious list of villages, compiled from exclusive data from Savills Estate Agents, is based on a wide-range of criteria ranging from demand for housing, proximity to schools and cities, and green spaces.

After making the move from London back to Gower to take over Bayview, we, the Reilly, family knew straight away that we’d made the right choice. Oxwich, as the article says, has a ‘little bit of everything’ and gives a great balance of life – all that the village of Oxwich has to offer with the city-by-the-sea of Swansea less than half an hour’s drive away.

You don’t have to buy a house in Oxwich to enjoy what The Telegraph has found. We invite you to stay at Bayview in one of our contemporary cottages or luxury apartments and see what all the fuss is about. To whet the appetite, this is what apparently makes Oxwich ‘posh’

  • beautifully positioned at the south side of the Gower peninsula, the UK’s first designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

  • part of the small community of Penrice which extends from the seaside village of Horton to Oxwich Bay

  • small population of approximately 454 inhabitants

  • safe and sandy bay – one of Gower’s most-visited beaches

  • home to the Oxwich National Nature Reserve – a unique mix of beach, sand dunes, lakes, woodlands, cliffs, and salt and freshwater lakes

  • wide range of habitats for many different species in a compact area

  • medieval church of St Illtyd’s with its origins in the 6th century and shrouded in myth and legend

  • historic village – traditional fishermen’s cottages, an old post office, thatched cottages (one of which was stayed in by preacher, John Wesley)

  • luxury hotel and wedding venue at the Oxwich Bay Hotel

  • Michelin star restaurant, The Beachhouse, right at the water’s edge
