Selwyn’s Seafoods Gower

The Welsh name Selwyn is said to derive from Middle English, joining together ‘sele’ (meaning ‘hall’) and ‘wyne’ (meaning ‘friend’) Here in Gower, we’ve got that idea personified in Selwyn’s Seafoods, a local business that is definitely a friend of the sea.

For over 50 years the business, based on the northern estuary side of Gower, has been committed to the discovery of great seafood, the majority of it sourced off our peninsula, long known for its delicacies of cockles, mussels and laverbread. You can read this fascinating story at www.selwynseaweed.com

Since 2014, owners Ashley and Kate Jones have been roasting and seasoning and crisping their world-fabulous Nori seaweed snacks, which you might have seen on the supermarket shelves. This is an amazing power-food crammed with minerals, anti-oxidants and omega 3. If you haven’t tried them before, make sure to give them a try when you’re here with us in your holiday rental at Bayview, Oxwich. You can order them online too.

This year, sees the continuing development of this proud Gower brand and success story with the opening of a new shop and restaurant – Selwyn’s Seafood Shack – at Llanmorlais. Here you’ll be astounded with quality food and quality and knowledgeable service.

Outside (and inside soon) you can enjoy what Selwyn terms ‘dim ond y gorau’ (only the best). Extraordinary Welsh seafood is on the menu including: cockles, mussels, laverbread, crispy seaweed snacks, crab, king prawn, scallops and fish including hake, flounder and local bass.

All this in an ambience that reflects local craftwork including that of Steve of Wuzzlewood Woodcraft Twitter @wuzzlewood who has created the carved boards on which you’ll be served your seafood platter or charcuterie.

Selwyn’s Seafoods has been a real find for us at Bayview, Oxwich and we’d love you to experience what all the fuss is about. So either direct to your door, or a trip to the shack, will tell you why we’re going on and on about this local treasure.
