Gower Walking Festival

It’s almost time to lace up your boots and get involved in the Gower Walking Festival. The acclaimed festival runs from Saturday, 3rd September until Sunday, 11th September and offers participants 9 days and 33 walks that celebrate Gower’s unique landscape and rich heritage.

The Festival is extra-special this year as at its heart is the 10th Anniversary of the Wales Coast Path and 2 of the walks on the programme invite walkers to tramp Gower’s wonderful 40mile stretch of the this first-of-its-kind path, over 2 days, running from Penclawdd in the north of the peninsula to Mumbles in the south.

If you’re not up to a marathon trek like this, then there are plenty of walks to suit your level of fitness and your specific interests. There are castles and cemeteries, old farmhouses and old tracks, geology and archaeology, taking in the many aspects of Gower, including its bays, valleys and reservoirs. This year, there’s also the opportunity to get creative along the way – inviting you to write a poem or a piece of flash fiction or take a photograph inspired by the walks and enter into a competition with the change of winning a prize.

The Gower Walking Festival website www.gowerwalkingfestival.uk  has the details of all the 33 walks, each graded for difficulty and level of challenge, length, times, prices and information about the walk leaders who will share their knowledge of Gower’s special landscapes with the participants.

This year, it’s great to see that 2 of the walks are right here in Oxwich within walking distance of Bayview. Walk 16 to Oxwich Nature Reserve is on Tuesday, 6th September and Walk 31 to Oxwich Point takes place on the final day Sunday, 11th September.

September is a lovely time of the year to come to Bayview, Oxwich and we still have limited availability in our luxury rental contemporary cottages and fabulous flats. So if you enjoy walking and want to be part of a meticulously organised, diverse and sustainable programme of events designed to educate, encourage – and sometimes challenge – we’d love you to make Bayview, Oxwich your base. We promise you accommodation that is second to none, coastal views to take your breath away, and rest and relaxation and space to put your feet up after your walk is done.
