Gower and The Guardian – making headlines again!

Bayview, Oxwich was not surprised to see Gower’s glorious peninsula making the headlines again, recently. This time for a very interesting article written by Ella Braidwood on 16th June in which she outlines her experiences of being part of a small group of walkers, who are part of ‘Mind over Mountains’, a charity using outdoor experiences to support people’s mental health.

In Ella’s feature, she and eight others, ‘walk and talk’ along a circular 7-mile walk, starting and ending at Rhossili, one of Gower’s most vaunted holiday destinations. The article can be read in full here, and for those interested in mindfulness, nature’s balm and how mental health and well-being can be improved by interacting with the great outdoors, it is a wonderful read. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2022/jun/16/mindful-walk-on-south-wales-rhossili-swansea-gower-peninsula?CMP=Share_AndroidApp

It did make us take stock at Bayview, and realise how walking can help us be in the moment and offer us new perspectives on life which is exactly what this walk gives – literal and metaphoric!

Visitors who stay in one of our luxury contemporary cottages or fabulously appointed flats, will have a treat, following in the footsteps of Ella and her group of walkers.

At the beginning of the walk at Rhossili, you are given the perspectives of looking out to the tidal island of iconic Worm’s Head and out across the wild, 3-mile sandy sweep of Atlantic-facing Rhossili Bay.

From Rhossili, you follow the coast and drop down into secluded Fall Bay. From here you are offered yet more new perspectives out across the Bristol Channel to the north Devon coast and Lundy Island. And breathe… for now you continue and climb to the beacon at the top of Rhossili Down from where the views literally take what breath you have left away! Ella focuses on the sight and sound of skylarks. Though depending on what time of the year you walk, you might see the Down purple with heather or cows grazing on the upland grasses.

From here it’s an easy walk downhill back to the beach at Rhossili where you might like to spend a few moments looking at the bleached timber ribs of the wreck of the Helvetica jutting out of the sand, or stand and look west to the Pembrokeshire coastline in the distance.

Bayview, Oxwich invites you to make your base with us in Gower and put one step in front of the other on this walk, or any of the other wonderful walks you’ll find in our glorious Gower peninsula. Enjoy a sense of peace and a wonderful sense of place. For more details of our holiday rental properties, please contact Wanda and the Team who’ll be happy to advise.
